In January 2009, PROKON Biogene Kraftstoffe (PROKON Biofuels) was formed out of the three former companies Pflanzenöltechnik Nord GmbH (retrofitting of vehicles to operation on vegetable oil), PROKON Oil GmbH & Co. KG (distribution of vegetable oil) and Kroppenstedter Pflanzenöl GmbH & Co. KG (production of vegetable oil).

The main business of the PROKON Group is planning, operating and financing of wind farms. Besides that, the PROKON Group expanded its business activities into the use of vegetable oil as fuel for diesel engines in 2001. In September 2004 the PROKON Group became a 50 % shareholder of Pflanzenöltechnik Nord (PTN). PTN had been specialised in the retrofitting of commercial vehicles such as trucks and buses to operate on vegetable oil. Through the fusion of the three companies the successful partnership turned into a solid liaison. PROKON Biogene Kraftstoffe operates a nationwide net of PROKON Oil filling stations in Germany to provide sufficient supply of vegetable oil.

Since August 2009, the PROKON Group is the majority shareholder of the Bio-Ölwerk Magdeburg GmbH, one of Germany's largest producers of biodiesel. For PROKON the step into the biodiesel market means winning new customers since biodiesel has two major advantages: retrofitting of diesel engines is not necessary and due to the legal liability of adding biodiesel to mineral diesel, a secure market exists in Germany.
